COMMUNITY LINC HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL LIGHT THE WAY HOME BREAKFAST KC Nonprofit Committed to Ending Family Homelessness Honors Clients and Supporters

Where: Grand Street Café Ballroom, 4740 Grand Ave, Kansas City, MO. When: Thursday, May 18th, 2017 - 8:00 AM What: Third District Councilman Jermaine Reed will present five Kansas Citians with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for their unwavering service to Community LINC, a local nonprofit that has worked to end family homelessness for three decades in Kansas City, serving 120 homeless families with nearly 300 children each `year. The 2nd annual Light the Way Home fundraising event highlights the success of the previously homeless families. Proceeds from this event will help provide housing and supportive services to 150 families with 300 children in 2017.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is the premier volunteer awards program, encouraging citizens to live a life of service through presidential gratitude and national recognition. The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes extraordinary volunteers who have served a significant number of service hours over a 12-month period. Five Community LINC volunteers will be honored for over 1,000 hours of combined service in 2016. Community LINC stabilizes, re-houses and empowers homeless families to thrive independently. For 29 years as a Kansas City nonprofit delivering evidenced-based programs, Community LINC has served over 4,000 homeless families. A five-year retention study of all program graduates showed that 89% remained housed and self-sufficient.
