Overland Park, KS - It's time to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the Mediterranean! Greek Festival2017 is just around the comer. Mark your calendar for, June 9th, 5 pm - 10 pm, Saturday June 10th 11 am 0 pm & Sunday, June 11th, 11 am –6pm.. The community of St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church expects over 15,000 visitors for their 56th annual food and entertainment venue on the church grounds, 8100 W. 95th Sheet, O.P. KS, 66212. Admission and parking are free with additional parking across 95th street at Holy Cross School also at the Valley View Bank at 7500 W 95th St. next to McDonalds. Everyone knows the best part of Greek Festival2017 is the food. This is NOT your usual summer festival of hot dogs and popcorn! Only the finest ingredients are used to prepare our gourmet Greek delicacies--and serving sizes are of Epic proportions! Succulent Souvlaki (marinated pork tenderloin kabobs), We will also have Vegan kabobs.
Mouth-watering Gyros (seared lamb & beef in pita bread in a savory yogurt/cucumber sauce), and Traditional Lamb chops (roasted with garlic & seasonings) are just a few of the main dishes that are all made from scratch by our church members. We haven't been sitting on our Greek laurels' Pop a few Spanakopita (spinach cheese puffs) and Dolmades (beef & rice stuffed grape leaves) in your mouth and you'll know why Philhellenes (friends of the Greeks) keep coming back year after year. For the second year we are featuring Baklava cheesecake. We sold out of 15 cases in three hours. After licking sticky, honey fingertips from Baklava (honey drenched nut & filo layers), and Galadoboutiko (honey-soaked custard-filled filo) you'll enjoy hours of toe tapping with Live Greek music and dancing! Get out there and learn some of the latest Greek dance with the dance troupe. The Greek band, A Night in Athens, will perform all weekend. International Bouzouki star George Antonopoulos joins vocalist Joanna Katsonis and band, as they perform both popular and folk music. Our very talented dance troupes will wow you with their dances! After the show classes will be held so everyone can learn and dance with us. Greeks love to share the dance floor with all their friends. Performance times are Friday June 9th, 6 & 8 PM, Saturday June 10th, 11:30 AM, 2:00, 4:30, 6:30, & 8:00 PM, and Sunday June 11th, 12:30, 2:30, & 4:30 PM. Souvenir hunters will de1ight in our Greek Marketplace. You'll find crafted gold and silver jewelry, Greek sailor hats, imported icons, fine linens and more. You can charge your food or gift: purchases for your convenience. Tours of the church and its beautiful iconography are conducted throughout the weekend. We invite you to learn about the history and traditions of the Orthodox faith. Rain or shine, the big tents will provide a comfortable and shady spots to enjoy the food and fun.
