Excelsior Springs in Path of Totality for Historic Solar Eclipse

Excelsior Springs is a vibrant, historic community of 11,000 in a prime viewing area to see the 2017 Solar Eclipse. The city’s natural beauty and unique history make an exciting venue for this epic event on August 21, 2017 and will be hosting a plethora of activities on the weekend leading up to the event.

To kick off the weekend, the annual BBQ Fly In on the River will begin Friday, August 18 with a competitive barbecue competition filled with vendors from across the nation, bands, and beer garden. On Saturday, August 19, from 7am-2pm, there will be a Fly-In Breakfast and Lunch at the Excelsior Springs Airport, featuring airplane rides, displays and demonstrations, Young Eagle flights, and inflatables for the kids.

To celebrate being in the path of totality, the City of Excelsior Springs is hosting a Solar Eclipse Festival, starting Sunday, August 20 and ending after the Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21. This festival will be complete with vendors, entertainment, and presentations by Vice-President of the Astronomical Society of Kansas City Jackie Beucher.

Excelsior Springs began with the discovery of its numerous mineral water springs in the late 1800s. Its numerous mineral wells attracted people from across the country to come experience “America’s Haven of Health.” Today travelers come to vacation, stay at The Elms Hotel and Spa where Harry S. Truman woke up president, visit the architecturally magnificent Hall of Waters, play a round of golf at our historic course, visit our unique Main Street shops, or take a wine tour on the Chamber’s trolley bus to some of our surrounding wineries. We make a great regional destination, minutes away from Watkins Mill State Historic Park, historic Mt. Gilead School and Jesse James Farm.
