Start-up winery hopes to reconnect Kansas City to honeybees through ancient beverage: Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Capital
KANSAS CITY, KANSAS – January 21, 2017 – Kaw Point Meadery is a start-up winery founded by three friends and KC-natives. Daniel Bauer – Chief Executive Officer, Sam Suddarth - Chief Financial Officer, and John Zumalt, Jr. – Chief Operating Officer. Together they intend to build the first dedicated meadery in Kansas City’s history.
Mead is an alcoholic beverage created through the fermentation of honey. It is neither a wine, nor beer, but a category of its own. “Grains are to beer, as grapes are to wine, as honey is to mead,” Daniel Bauer, likes to explain to newcomers. “Mead can range from dry to sweet, high to low alcohol content, with potential flavors only limited by imagination.”
Kaw Point Meadery will offer three series of meads: Sessions – 6.5% ABV, carbonated, kegged and canned Seasonals – 12-14% ABV, local fruit, released when ready, small-batch Pollinators’ Reserve – 12-14% ABV, varietal honey traditional meads, small-batch
Kaw Point Meadery has been working with the Kansas Small Business Development Center and the supportive network of professionals in the American Mead Makers Association. The help from these sources has been invaluable in finalizing a business plan and honing the craft.
A 30-day Kickstarter campaign was launched on April 29th to raise $30,000 in start-up capital. Within the first day of launch 10% of funding was achieved, with 39% raised as of 3/9/17, and 19 days remaining for the fund-raising campaign.
