ANNUAL RODEO AND DEMO DERBY RETURNS Tickets on sale for Shrine Rodeo & Demo Derby at the Leavenworth Co. Fairgrounds
TONGANOXIE, KAN. (May 8, 2017) - The bulls and horses will stampede into Tonganoxie Memorial Day weekend.
That’s when the annual Shrine Rodeo and Demo Derby roars into town, with four-legged equine horse power with the rodeo and the grind of the motors for the demo derby. The rodeo is May 25-26, with the demo derby on May 27.
It’s an event that area residents look forward to, said Bruce Coleman, co-owner of Coleman Equipment in Bonner Springs. Coleman has been involved with the rodeo as a sponsor for about a dozen years, and he often attends it as well. “I always enjoy outdoor activities, and the rodeo is well produced. It’s entertaining.”
Coleman is thankful for what the Shriners do for kids, too. The daughter of a mechanic who worked for Coleman Equipment years ago was burned, and her medical care was provided, regardless of what the family could pay, by the Shriners. “I really appreciate the things the Shriners do, from that standpoint,” he said.
The Shrine Rodeo and Demo Derby, in its 58th year, is hosted by the Abdallah Shrine in Overland Park. The Shriners work to keep tickets family-priced. Rodeo tickets are $12 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-12. Demo derby tickets are $12 for everyone ages 6 and up.
Family Fun Packs are available for the rodeo nights of May 25-26, and consist of two adult tickets, two children’s tickets and four meal deals for $40. On May 20, the price goes to $50. The Family Fun Packs are valued at $60.
The Thursday, May 25 night of the rodeo is First Responders and Military Appreciation night. All first responders, including policemen and women, fire fighters, and EMTs, plus all military, and their families, get into the rodeo free. First responders and military should bring identification with them.
The Shrine Rodeo and Demo Derby will be held at the Leavenworth Co. Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie May 25-27. Tickets can be purchased online at ShrineRodeo.com, at Brothers’ Market in Tonganoxie, and at the gate. For more information, visit the website, the event’s Facebook page (search for Shrine Rodeo), or call the Shrine office at 913.362.5300.
