GO FORTH TO SERVE DAY FACT SHEET The sixth annual Go Forth to Serve Day at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School is a capstone event for the school’s year-long Faith Family and service-learning activities. This event inspires the students of St. Michael the Archangel to "Go Forth to Serve" in their homes, communities and world in response to Christ's call to serve others. Throughout the day students will have the opportunity to reflect on how God calls each person to serve.
•The day begins with All School Mass.
•Throughout the day, 7th Grade "Service Ambassadors" and 8th grade "FBI - Faith Beating Injustice" members will lead fellow students in service learning activities. •Guest speakers, including representatives from Catholic Charities’ Summer Food Program, Johnson County Christmas Bureau, Synergy, and Parish “Companions in Faith” from St. Michael’s and Our Lady of Unity Church, will share their personal stories about community needs and service activities. •Students will participate in a Solidarity Walk around the parish campus to promote public awareness of community needs and their responsibility as Catholics to speak on behalf of vulnerable people in our community. •Students will create a “Living Cross” for an aerial photo at the conclusion of the Solidarity Walk. •Service projects will engage students in hands-on activities to benefit Catholic Charities, Operation Breakthrough, Grace Gardens, and the parish-sponsored mission in Honduras. •Faith Families will have their final meeting of the year and focus on building community in these multi-age student groups and the school as a whole. •Students will gather for the third annual All School Picnic hosted by the parish’s Knights of Columbus. •Students will enjoy books and videos about service and games about fairness and justice. •The day will conclude with a pep rally style commissioning, sending students to “Go Forth to Serve” this summer.
