FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kansas City, MO – St. Mark Hope and Peace Lutheran Church and St. James Catholic Church present Stations of the Cross on Troost Avenue.

St. James Catholic Church and St. Mark Lutheran Church have been neighbors on Troost Avenue for over a hundred years. They are strong partners in a neighborhood that has changed a lot over those years. This year the collaboration adds Stations of the Cross on Troost. Participants will begin at Operation Breakthrough at 31st and Troost at noon, and conclude at St. James at approximately 2 pm.

Each of the fifteen stations takes a scene from Jesus passion (his suffering and death) and connects it to the particular location at which the participants stop. For example, the group will stop at DeLaSalle Education Center, where the reflection and prayer will tie Jesus falling to the work DeLaSalle does to catch students who could fall through the cracks in the education system.

Leaders from both churches hope that the Troost Stations of the Cross will become a yearly event and allow persons to reflect on the joys and challenges for those who live, work, and worship along Troost. St. Mark Hope and Peace and St. James already collaborate on several projects, including a music series called Music on Troost and a weekly service opportunity at the 39th and Troost ATA transfer point. The latter project is known as Bus Stop Ministry.
