David Basse & Jim Lower’s 18 Piece Big Band Tuesdays at New Westport Jazz Venue
Kansas City, MO (April 5, 2017) -- On April 25 David Basse will begin a year-long weekly engagement on Tuesdays with Jim Lower’s 18 piece Big Band at Jazz Nebula inside Californos Westport. With a full dinner menu and an intimate setting, this new nightspot will provide dinner and a true focus on live jazz, an element that has long been missing from the Kansas City Jazz Scene.
Californos new jazz club, Jazz Nebula, is also host each Wednesday evening to Eddie Moore’s popular weekly jazz jam session. Pianist Rich Hill performed at the club on Fat Tuesday. Other stellar jazz events are in the works. Doors open each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., with the band playing two sets beginning at 7:00 p.m. Reservations are recommended by calling 816-531-7878 or through the website at www.californos.com. Californos is located at 4124 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64111-3003.
“The soul of a bon vivant and the spirit of a hipster…Basse scats with insouciance, reels you into ballads with a raconteur’s charm.” George Kansler, Hot House Magazine, New York
2017 marks the 16th year for David’s Summertime Music Event series at Holy-Field Vineyard & Winery in Basehor, Kansas. The concert series begins Sunday, May 21, and the line-up of a dozen bands can be found at www.holy-fieldwinery.com. David and his seven piece band will perform at the annual Charlie Parker Festival on Sunday, August 20, as part of the Sundays in the Park Concert Series (www.leawood.org). The performance will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Ironwoods Park Amphitheater. The Sundays in the Park Concert Series began 16 years ago, and David has been the only act to be on the bill each year.
David’s long successful run as host of The Jazz Scene on Kansas Public Radio, which also began 16 years ago, now appears to be coming to an end. Due to recent state budget cuts, Saturday, June 24, will be the final day of the popular radio program. Syndicated programs distributed by Public Radio Exchange, Jazz with David Basse and 12th Street Jump, will continue to be broadcast.
