Tri-County Effort Featured in National Pilot Program

Tri-County Mental Health Services was featured among the partners of Netsmart Technologies in a recent article detailing a successful pilot program to better monitor health care.

Netsmart is working closely with organizations in eight states selected for the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). CCBHC is based on the Excellence in Mental Health Act and includes a two-year, eight-state initiative to expand Americans’ access to mental health and addiction care in community-based settings.

The program requires organizations like Tri-County to provide for delivery of nine required types of services, including 24-hour crisis care, use of evidence-based practices, care coordination and integration with physical health care. The organizations will also be required to deliver those services while participating in a new Prospective Payment System.

Tri-County CEO Tom Petrizzo said all of these prerequisites are a challenge. “As we studied the requirements associated with the CCBHC program, we quickly realized we would need more than our standard electronic health record (EHR) to meet the clinical and billing requirements of the program,” Petrizzo noted. “We needed a technology partner who understood the unique requirements of the CCBHC program and was thinking beyond traditional EHR capabilities and into areas such as analytics, population health management and interoperability. These components are critical in helping us achieve success in a value-based care environment.”

Tri-County was among five of only eight organizations nationally selected by Netsmart to begin the trial. The company showcased the program and other behavioral health solutions at the National Council for Behavioral Health Conference in Seattle April 3-5.

Headquartered in Overland Park, Netsmart is the largest healthcare IT provider focused solely on integrating behavioral health and post-acute care with the rest of healthcare.

Tri-County Mental Health Services, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit community mental health agency delivering behavioral health-care to individuals and families residing in Clay, Platte and Ray counties. Each year, Tri-County programs assist nearly 8,000 area residents while providing prevention services to over 40,000 individuals in concert with some 500 community volunteers.
