May 6, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church to Lead 'Awakening the Spirit in West Missouri' at Kansas City Power & Light Stage

On Saturday, May 6, starting midday at the Kansas City Power & Light Stage, The Most Reverend Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, will lead Awakening the Spirit in West Missouri. Presiding Bishop Curry will bring to Kansas City his charismatic preaching, and his love and enthusiasm for ‘The Jesus Movement', which he describes as "Following Jesus and growing a loving, liberating, life-giving relationship with God, with each other, and with creation." This event is the Presiding Bishop’s call to a way of life that is not self-centered, but a way of love grounded in compassion, goodness, justice, and forgiveness. The Diocese of West Missouri is one of four in the country that will host this unique opportunity to see Presiding Bishop Curry and hear him preach.

The event will also feature performances by local musicians and a short ecumenical service for those interested in taking part. Priests from the diocese’s Episcopal churches will be on hand to offer prayer and assistance to those wanting to know more about The Jesus Movement and The Episcopal Church.

Prior to the event Presiding Bishop Curry will be working with the youth of the diocese to distribute food at a local food pantry. In addition to the main events, Presiding Bishop Curry will be meeting with people from local communities in both Kansas City and Springfield.

On Sunday, May 7, starting at 1:30 p.m., Presiding Bishop Curry will lead a second event at Hammons Field in Springfield.

Everyone is invited to attend the main Awakening the Spirit in West Missouri events. The Presiding Bishop’s visit is already drawing groups from across the Midwest, who are organizing transportation to attend the events.

The main events will also be streamed live on social media.

This is the second of six planned events taking place through 2017 and 2018.
