Athletic Director Tom Gang announced on Monday that Wentworth head men's wrestling coach Shane Reickard has resigned from his position within the college athletics department, but will maintain his role as the head coach within the high school wrestling program.
"I'm at a point in my life where it is really important to focus on my family," Reickard stated. "My son will be entering his freshman year of high school and I believe that it is really important for me to be more present for him. This wrestling program has been a huge part of my life over the last six years and it is hard to let it go, but this was a necessary decision that is best for myself and my family."
During his six year stint at Wentworth, Reickard qualified 16 to the NJCAA Wrestling National Championship Tournament, produced eight NJCAA Academic All-Americans, and was a crucial member in the start-up of the first women's wrestling program. He also had a large hand in the high school athletic department throughout the years serving on the coaching staff for the football, wrestling, and track programs.
Gang also announced that Don Schreimann, who served the previous season as the head coach for women's wrestling and an assistant for the men's program, will be named the interim head coach.
"We appreciate all that Coach Reickard has done in leading our wrestling program and we wish him the best on this new chapter in life," Gang said. "At the same time, we want to announce that Don Schreimann will be our interim head coach. We look forward to seeing our team's continued development under another coach that will bring an abundance of experience to the program. Coach Schreimann's background showcases 42 years of coaching experience which has prepared him for this next step. He had a big hand in the recruitment of quality athletes and development over our women's program this past season and will now be tasked with doing the same for the men's program."
Individuals that are interested in the men's or women's wrestling programs should contact Coach Schreimann at email@example.com.
