Soldier-Owned Crivello's Confections Marks One-Year Anniversary

Michael Crivello, owner of Crivello's Confections and a U.S. Army MEDEVAC pilot, today marked the Leavenworth small business's one-year anniversary of serving the best cheesecakes one this side of the Missouri River.

"It's been wonderful to be a part of the Leavenworth community as both a soldier and small business owner," Crivello said. "My grandmother, Christine, not only handed down a mouthwatering cheesecake recipe, but a legacy of love and service I've been proud to honor- in the cockpit and the kitchen. I look forward to celebrating many more many more years of serving up Kansas' most delectable desserts and encourage all the families int he area to stop in and make the spring season even sweeter."

Michael founded Crivello's Confections in 2016 while stationed at Fort Leavenworth. With the help of Missie Darnley and Robyn Sumner proprietor and chef of First Taste Olive Oils and Cafe, Michael started supplying the cafe and patrons with cheesecakes.

The original recipe for Crivello's Confections' signature cheesecake is handed down from Michael's grandmother, Christine Crivello. During WWII, Christine was a pilot-in-training for the WASP Corps, learning to fly in support of the war effort. The Crivello's Confections logo is a picture of Christine standing in front of her plane in 1944. The logo not only pays homage to Christine, but evokes the nostalgia of homemade, old-style baking that's carried on in every cake.

Christine guarded the secret recipe and "process" closely, only sharing it with her son, Bruce and grandson, Michael. Sharing in Christine's love of baking, and wanting to honor his grandmother, Michael brought to the public what only friends and family had enjoyed in the past.

In celebration of Christine's legacy, and its one-year anniversary, Crivello's Confections is offering a 10% discount on all slices and whole cakes ordered now through Easter.

The cheesecakes are available for purchase or order at First Taste, located at 424 Cherokee St. in Leavenworth or by phone (913) 744-5138
