Wilson Promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations and Compliance at Park University

Park University has announced the promotion of Steve Wilson to the position of associate athletic director for media relations and compliance. Wilson began his new duties on Feb. 1.

Wilson, in his 10th year leading communication efforts for the University’s Department of Athletics, leads an office that promotes student-athlete and departmental achievements, and coordinates fan experiences. He also oversees the Park athletics online and social media presence, including the University’s athletics website, www.parkathletics.com, and athletics broadcast portal, the Pirate Sports Network, www.parkathletics.tv.

Wilson joined Park in 2007 as the University’s sports information director, and in 2013, he was promoted to assistant athletic director for sports communications and also appointed women’s golf coach. With his recent promotion, Wilson will continue to coach the women’s golf team through the end of the 2017 season before making a full transition to his new administrative role.

In addition to serving as the University’s athletics compliance officer, which includes assisting with Title IX efforts, working with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics eligibility center, and monitoring academic progress and advancement, Wilson will also work with the University’s Academic Support Center to ensure student-athlete success in the classroom.

A resident of Platte City, Mo., Wilson was honored with the NAIA’s prestigious Clarence “Ike” Pearson Award in 2013, which is given annually to an outstanding NAIA communications/sports information director for accomplishments and services over a career.

Wilson earned a Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in nonprofit and community services management from Park, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in print and electronic journalism from Kansas State University.
