Midwest Mardi Gras for No Kid Hungry on Feb. 26 will raise funds to help end childhood hunger
No Kid Hungry (NKH) Kansas City, the top fundraising team in the U.S. for Share Our Strength, will host a fundraising party at Brewery Emperial on Feb. 26. Mardi Gras Midwest for NKH will feature a collaborative New Orleans-inspired menu hosted and coordinated by Brewery Emperial’s owner, Ted Habiger—chef/owner of Rm 39 and Sasha’s Baking Company, with dishes created by some of KC’s top chefs. Participating chefs include Celina Tio, Julian; Ryan Brazeal, Novel; John C. Smith; and Debbie Gold. Guests will also enjoy king cakes from Sasha’s and desserts from Annedore’s Fine Chocolates, Swoon Cookies and Smart Cookies Bakery. The Roasterie will provide No Kid Hungry Cause Blend coffee, which will also be available for purchase to benefit NKH Kansas City. Brewery Emperial will provide craft beers, wine & specialty cocktails including Hurricanes, a classic Mardi Gras cocktail.
Billy Ebeling and The Late for Dinner Band will provide live music and the evening will also feature other Mardi Gras-style amusements and a raffle. Guests are encouraged to dress Mardi Gras-casual and be ready to let the good times roll.
“We are thrilled to kick off No Kid Hungry Kansas City’s fund-raising year with this festive party at Brewery Emperial with drink and food from some of the city’s hottest chefs,” says culinary philanthropist and event co-chair Gina Reardon. “All proceeds will help connect kids facing food insecurity in the Heartland to millions of breakfast, lunch and summer meals. Kansas City is full of charitable people who have embraced our mission to help end childhood hunger here and across the nation and for that we are humbled and grateful.”
“Brewery Emperial is proud to host Mardi Gras Midwest for NKH,” Habiger says. “Kansas City chefs are some of the most generous around and with their help and the community’s support, the evening will not only be a terrific party, but also a great fund-raiser for No Kid Hungry’s efforts.”
Last year NKH Kansas City raised $101,050 with myriad events, including the signature KC Culinary Bake Sale and inaugural Country Brunch Bloody Mary Smack Down and mini bake sales and lemonade stands hosted by Next Generation Bakers and community bakers. This year’s signature events are slated for the weekend of October 7-8, 2017.
