KC Company Hosting Luxury Estate Sales is Changing the Image of an Industry
Estate sales are not just about floral sofas anymore. Brown Button is changing the image of the industry with their luxury sales.
Brown Button Estate Sale Services will host a massive designer luxury estate sale in Leawood KS the first week of December including original Thomas Hart Benton paintings.
Often estate sales are thought of in the same space as garage sales -- dark and dingy, with dated items like old VCRs, 8 track tapes, & floral sofas. One Kansas City estate sale company is working to change that image. Over the last several years Brown Button Estate Sales has built a reputation on conducting high-end luxury estate sales in neighborhoods such as Hallbrook, Lionsgate, Lake Quivira, Tiffany Springs, and Mission Hills. Most of these are living estate sales, where the homeowner is making the choice to downsize and sell a lifetime of accumulation.
Luxury estate sales are often centered around a house full of high-end furniture and decor, including brands such as Henredon, Hooker, American Drew, Thomasville, Jeffco, and Karges. Brown Button also specializes in designer clothing, original art, and fine jewelry. "The public is often surprised by the items we are able to sell," says James Fry, one of the owners at Brown Button. "We've sold everything from a Steinway grand piano to a Hummer; Rolex watches to a $30,000 diamond ring."
No sale better illustrates Brown Button’s focus on the luxury market than their upcoming estate sale December 8th through 10th. Taking place in the Berkshire neighborhood in Leawood, the 11,000 square-foot house showcases the best of KC art, jewelry and designer clothes. The sale contains two original ink and watercolor Thomas Hart Benton paintings that will be offered to the public at $30,000 each. This pair was a part of the Alvin Gottlieb Collection that was on display at the Nelson Atkins Museum Of Art in Kansas City and the Smithsonian in Washington DC in the 1990s. The jewelry included in the estate sale is more akin to a Tivoli window display then what you would typically expect in an estate sale. The pieces include a Michael Bondanza 18k necklace ($8,000), Tivol south sea pearl necklace ($400) and diamond/pearl earrings ($8,500), Cartier 18k gold watch ($2,500), Omega Constellation diamond watch ($4,200), and ruby & diamond gold earrings ($2,000). The room-sized walk-in closet is filled with designer brands including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hermes, Prada, Kate Spade, and St. John. The Brown Button founders expect the escalation in high-end estate sales across the industry to continue. Retiring Baby Boomers are increasingly taking their future in their own hands and are looking for ways to simplify while maximizing the value of a lifetime of possessions. With internet advertising, local estate sale companies can bring luxury goods to the marketplace, reach a large audience, and command prices on par with much larger auction houses.
