Kids can do their shopping at Holiday Marketplace at RPCC on Dec. 10

A festive morning is planned at the Roeland Park Community Center on Dec. 10 when kids can do their Christmas shopping during a special event being planned by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

Now in its fourth year, Holiday Marketplace is the name of this event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. While this event is for all ages, it is meant primarily to provide a special holiday shopping experience for youngsters ages two to about nine years old. Participants will find an array of craft items priced at $10 or less, meant as potential gifts for family and friends. Participants can also meet Santa, and complete a holiday craft project. As part of the shopping experience, volunteers will be on hand to help young shoppers make smart decisions with the money that mom or dad has provided for them, and there will be a free gift wrapping station.

This event is free to attend and lunch will be available for purchase. The Roeland Park Community Center is located at 4850 Rosewood Drive, Roeland Park.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog, browse first under fun for all and then under special events. Look for the keywords “holiday event.”

For those interested in selling at the event, booth space is still available. The cost for vendors is $30 for a booth space, including a chair and two tables. Items being sold must be handmade and be priced under $10, including tax. For more information, call Lisa at (913) 826-3161 or email

In preparation for this event, the Roeland Park Community Center is accepting donations of wrapping paper, gift tags, tape, and scissors. Please drop off donations between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The JCPRD’s Activities catalog, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
