Ansera Analytics Awarded $1.04 Million Phase II SBIR Grant by U.S. Department of Defense

Olathe-based company will evaluate next generation of tools that keep military safe in hazardous threat environments

OLATHE, Kan. — Ansera Analytics, LLC (Ansera), an Olathe, Kan.-based biotech company, was awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant by the U.S. Department of Defense to continue research, development and validation of the next generation of the Army’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Reconnaissance Sampling Kit.

For many years, warfighters in U.S. military branches have used a number of capabilities to test the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) hazards they encounter in the field.

“Current sampling kits require a technical refresh,” said Patrick E. Williams, Ph.D., President and CEO of Ansera. “Ansera Analytics is proud to be selected to fulfill this mission requirement which will allow America’s warfighters to operate in tactical environments with a greater sense of safety and security.”

The project includes enhanced sample collection, preparation, and preservation; a unified technology format for the presumptive identification of chemical, biological and explosive agents; sample analysis and data integration with TacDOGS; and a rigorous quality assurance/training program. The contract, valued at more than $1.04 million, consists of a two-year period of performance. The Phase II SBIR grant was awarded after successful completion of Phase I.

Dr. Williams has more than 30 years of experience in the development of new analytical methods and instruments for bio-molecular testing. He has provided technical leadership as the branch chief of the Armed Forces DNA Technology Development Program of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, served on the National Scientific Review Board for the Human Genome Project and numerous NIH Study Sections on technology development.
