Covenant Place of Lenexa receives flag flown over United States Capitol

Lenexa, KS, March 27, 2015 – Covenant Place of Lenexa Retirement, A Covenant Retirement Community has received a flag that was flown over the United States Capitol building in Washington D.C. There was a flag raising ceremony on March 27th, Friday at 2:00 p.m. coordinated by Dennis Branson, US Coast Guard Retired.

The ceremony was a commissioning ceremony for Covenant Place of Lenexa’s three new flag poles. A four-person honor guard and bugler commemorated the first time that an American flag has flown on these poles. The ceremonial flag flew over the U S Capitol in Washington D.C. in February of 2015 as part of the Capitol Flag Program, which began in 1937. A state of Kansas flag and a Christian flag will be flown on the remaining two poles. During the ceremony, four of Covenant Place of Lenexa’s residents gave brief statements about each flag.

“Covenant Place of Lenexa is honored to fly a flag that has flown over the Capitol” said Courtney O’Connor, Executive Director. “As we see the flag flying each day, we will remember the sacrifices made by our armed forces for this great country.”

Covenant Place of Lenexa is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community located at 8505 Pflumm Road in Lenexa, KS. The community is a part of Covenant Retirement Communities, Inc., on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
