NPB Companies, Inc. Honored by Department of Defense for Patriotic Support of an Employee Serving in the Kansas Army National Guard Kansas City, Kansas – KANSAS Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, announced today that NPB Companies, Inc. was honored with a “My Boss is a Patriot” award in recognition of extraordinary support of its employee serving in the United States Army Reserve. According to Walt Frederick, Kansas ESGR State Chair, “the Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve. Sergeant Victor Rincon, who serves with the 35th Infantry Division Headquarters, nominated Norman Smith, President of NPB Companies, Inc., for being highly supportive of the Kansas Army National Guard. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.” Norman Smith stated, "We take care of him like he was our family. When he returns from deployment, he will come right back here to work." Norman Smith was surprised and delighted to learn that Victor had nominated him for the “My Boss is a Patriot Award.” This great company has won numerous Kansas City Small Business Awards, and the My Boss is a Patriot will sit proudly with the others. Mr. Smith also signed an ESGR Statement of Support and indicated he will place it in the lobby of his office.
