Kandango A Three Day Bicycle Tour in Central Kansas May 30th-June 1st
(May 1, 2014)- Kandango is proud to announce its second annual three-day non-competitive bicycle tour throughout Central Kansas. Kandango takes to the scenic back-roads to discover hidden treasures of Kansas, and encourages riders to go at their own pace and explore the sights along the way of the 208.8 total miles. From May 30th - June 1st, registered participants ride from the starting point in the Smoky Hills on Friday, and end in Junction City on Sunday.
Regular bike rides zip you along, from one sag tent to the next, stopping only for the granola bars. We take the time to stop, smell the sunflowers, and linger a bit longer in the interesting host communities we pass through. We combine history, fun things to do and see, and plenty of chances to stop for local food and entertainment with friends. Like Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, and Wild Bill Hickock, we canvas the rich Kansas prairie through the scenic Smoky and Flint Hills of Kansas. You will be delighted with the unusual courses, and the fun pass through communities.
The three trails, OK Smoky, Smoky Hills Rambler, and Heart of the Flints offer a unique alternative to cyclists who missed out on RAGBRAI registration. With daily routes ranging from 82.9 miles on the first day and ending with a cool down of 48.8 miles on the last, Kandango is designed for both the experienced and beginner rider.
Registration is $90 and is done via http://www.bikereg.com/ride-kandango. For additional costs, transportation is available from Overland Park for $60, as well as from specific stops in Iowa and Nebraska for $80. Schedules and additional information can be found at Getting There: http://www.ridekandango.com/#!gettingthere/c532. Lodging information is provided in Accommodations: http://www.ridekandango.com/#!accomodations/c1zrj.
Kandango has no mileage requirements, and will provide sag support. Sag services do not require you to end the ride for the day if you take advantage. Air-conditioned buses will follow riders, and stop at pre-determined locations along the route. Anyone needing a rest can board, and start back up when they feel ready.
Kandango starts at The Quality Inn in Salina (2110 W. Crawford St., Salina, KS 67401) on Friday, May 30th. The deadline for final registration is Thursday, May 29th. Highlights and maps of the exact routes are available under Ride Info: http://www.ridekandango.com/#!rideinfo/c1tye.
