Platte County Assessor's Office

April 28, 2014 Press Release for immediate distribution

Platte County Assessor David Cox is pleased to announce that he has made a decision which will increase Platte County’s tax revenues from several utilities. This will be done without raising the overall amount of taxes paid by them, and without increasing utility rates.

Utilities pay property taxes on certain construction costs designated CWIP (Construction Work in Progress). The County Assessor has discretion as to what percentage of the total CWIP tax revenue from construction in Platte County is retained by the County. Previously, Platte County Assessors have retained 50% of CWIP tax revenue for Platte County. The other 50% was indirectly distributed to various other Missouri counties.

Mr. Cox has decided that for 2014, the Platte County Assessor’s Office will arrange for 75% of the CWIP tax revenue to stay in Platte County. This will result in an increase in revenue to multiple taxing districts in the County.
