Superheroes to Converge April 28 at Midtown Athletic Club in Overland Park

Fresh from Planet Comicon, Kansas City’s largest comic book and pop culture convention, superheroes SuperGirl, Aquaman, Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman—along with several Star Wars characters—will be among the caped-crusaders serving as special guests at Midtown Athletic Club in Overland Park as it celebrates ‘National Superhero Day’ from 5-7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28.

The superheroes will meet kids, pose for photos, and provide several small group training demonstrations, including Midtown’s exclusive Omnia Training System. Additional fitness activities include Cardio Tennis, total body conditioning, and KettleWorx.

The idea to celebrate Superhero Day at the club began with Midtown fitness trainer Jessica Porter-Meditz. Recognized this April by KC Magazine as “One of the Top 100 People of Kansas City,” Jessica brings her costumed SuperGirl persona to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where she entertains young patients there every month.

A suggested donation of $20 at the door will be matched by Midtown, with all proceeds benefitting Children’s Mercy Hospital.

“We want to support Jessica’s interest in entertaining our area’s youth while also promoting the importance of being active,” says Midtown General Manager Brad Houx. “Our superhero entourage will demonstrate that one doesn’t have to play sports to enjoy fitness. Not every kid is an athlete, but it’s important that physical fitness finds its way into his of her life.”
