KU Wind Ensemble to present world premiere of flute concerto by KU composer James Barnes at Lied Center on April 15

LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Wind Ensemble will present its final concert of the 2013-2014 season at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15 at the Lied Center of Kansas.

Paul W. Popiel, director of KU Bands, will conduct the Wind Ensemble program, which includes Symphonies of Wind Instruments by Igor Stravinsky and A Child’s Garden of Dreams by David Maslanka.

Guest conductor Matthew O. Smith, associate director of KU Bands, will conduct the world premiere of Concerto for Flute and Wind Orchestra, Op. 127 by composer James Barnes, professor of music theory and music composition, featuring soloist Sarah Frisof, assistant professor of flute.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children, seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office, by phone at 785-864-2787 or online at www.lied.ku.edu.
