FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

University of Kansas ROTC Hosting 20th Annual Ranger Buddy Competition

Elite Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Cadets from schools across the nation will gather at Sesquicentennial Park in Lawrence, Kan. at 5 a.m. Sat., April 19, 2014 for the KU ROTC’s 20th annual Ranger Buddy Competition. Two-cadet teams test physical and mental toughness with a 15-kilometer (9.3 mi) road march, target shooting, weapons assembly and more. Awards are given for the top three teams in each category (male/male, male/female, female/female, open division) and overall school. “This is probably the premier training event for ROTC Cadet two man teams to come out and physically challenge themselves but also mentally challenge themselves” LTC Storm Reynolds The competition is open for public viewing and an awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the event. For more information, contact Mr. Joe Midgley at (785) 864-1113 or Joemidgley@ku.edu.

Two decades in the making, this year’s Ranger Buddy Competition aims to define what it means to be a Ranger. Every lane captures the spirit of the Ranger creed. Buddy teams will fight and think their way through six lanes, each one representative of a Ranger Creed stanza. Knowing the creed won’t be enough to win; every team must demonstrate the ability and determination to “fight on to the Ranger objective”: a First Place Army ROTC Ranger Buddy Competition finish.
