2nd annual fastpitch benefit tournament to collect food for Kansas City food bank

Independence, Missouri – The 2nd annual Strikeout Hunger Fastpitch Tournament will be feeding mouths across the Kansas City region this weekend, April 11-13. Organized by Midwest Sports Productions (MSP) who has teamed up with Harvesters-The Community Food Network to collect food for 26 counties in the northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas areas. The tournament will take place at Adair Park in Independence and Hartman Park in Lees Summit.

The tournament is for age groups 10 & Under to 18 & Under. The team who brings the most food items will win a free tournament entry from MSP. There are over 40 teams signed up to play in this tournament.

This tournament is to help Harvesters with their BackSnack Program, which provides backpacks of food to low-income children for the weekend, to combat weekend hunger. The program creates a partnership between Harvesters, a participating school and a local corporate, civic or religious organization. This year, the program will grow again to serve nearly 19,000 students each week. It costs $250 to provide one BackSnack per child for every week of the school year.

“We are working for a common goal keep our youth healthy and happy,” says Samantha Goebel, director of internal affairs at MSP. “We love that our teams and athletes are so eager to help out in hopes of making this tournament just as successful as last year.”

There will not be a gate fee charged on-site for this event. For more information and to register for the tournament, please visit www.playmsp.com
