“TEXT ME” to Premier at Plays-in-Progress Workshop

Rockhurst University’s Plays-in-Progress Workshop will present a debut reading of the spring 2014 playwriting contest winner, “TEXT ME” by Traci and Riley Findley, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, in Sedgwick Hall, Room 115.

The Plays-in-Progress Workshop presents a biannual contest in which the public is invited to submit manuscripts of plays that have neither been given a public reading nor been performed on stage. The selected playwright will interact with the director, actors and audience members who will assess the creative work.

“TEXT ME” was chosen as the spring 2014 production. In the script, the playwrights ask: Is the evolution of social media drawing us closer together and making us feel more connected? Or, are we depriving ourselves from physical interaction, thereby creating an atmosphere of separation and isolation? “TEXT ME” examines a family’s experience attempting to navigate the impacts of technology in their lives.

Sedgwick Hall is located on Rockhurst University’s campus at 54th Street and Troost Avenue. Refreshments will be provided; donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, call 816-501-4607 or go to www.rockhurst.edu/center-arts-letters.
