[INDEPENDENCE, MO] - On Saturday, March 29th, MoveOn members and other concerned residents will be gathering in Independence to demand that Republican legislators in the General Assembly agree to accept federal Medicaid funding. This event is part of a national day of action in support of Medicaid expansion and affordable health care access. Seventy-five events have been planned nationwide.

This event, “A Single Step,” was originally envisioned as small rally with short speeches by event host Winston Apple (who filed last Monday to run in the Democratic primary for a seat in the Missouri House representing District 29) and State Senator Paul LeVota (D) and the world’s shortest march - “A Single Step” forward on this important issues. The speeches and “march” will take place between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Over the past few days “A Single Step” has undergone a stunning metamorphosis. Between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. until ??? a free concert will take up the greatest portion of the event.

Winston is a singer-songwriter himself and asked a few of his friends in the KC music community to come to the rally and sing a few songs. The response has been over-whelming. As of this morning the list of performers include: Emily Tummons, Allen Blasco, Dan Smith, Gary Paredes, John Keck, Scott Hrabko, Tommy Donoho, Mikil Shapiro, Chad Brothers, Lowell Premer, Dino O’Dell, and David George. Anyone familiar with the Kansas City music scene will tell you this is an awe-inspiring roster of talent.
