Gumdrop Books Donates New Books to Reach Out & Read in Kansas City

Bethany, MO - On March 14, almost 5,000 new books were delivered to a warehouse in Kansas City where the local Reach Out & Read Program prepares for their spring “Hooked on Books” book drive distribution. Pam Fitzgerald, Office Manager and a member of the family who owns and operates Gumdrop Books headquartered in Bethany, Missouri, organized the donation.

“I saw it on the Channel 4 news and thought we could help out.” Pam said. She contacted the Reach Out & Read director, Megan Sturges, and offered the donation, valued at over $100,000, to the charity.

The donation consists of an assortment of fiction and nonfiction, preschool to school age appropriate books, including many bilingual and Spanish titles. The books will be distributed as part of Reach Out & Read’s efforts to put new, culturally and developmentally appropriate books into the hands of readers, preschoolers through adults.
