SCORE open house celebrates 50 years in Kansas City
Charlie Finley’s Kansas City A’s finished last in the American League in 1964. Liz Taylor divorced her fourth husband - Eddie Fisher, if you are counting.
Business did better. The Dow ended the year at 874.13, up 14 percent from its beginning in January. A new national nonprofit business counseling organizations, SCORE, opened its doors for the first time. SCORE’s Kansas City chapter, nineteenth of what would become 340 chapters nationally, followed in 1965.
Now, Kansas City SCORE Chapter 19 is marking the 50th anniversary of both the national and local founding with a free wine and cheese reception and open house Tuesday, May 20, at its chapter headquarters, 4747 Troost, in Kansas City.
Past and present leaders and volunteers of the free small business counseling service will be there for the 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. event. SCORE clients whose businesses have flourished will be there too. Chapter members also would like to invite entrepreneurs we haven’t yet met too. Our goal is to grow the economy one business at a time. We would like yours to be one of them. For more information or to register for the event, call the Kansas City SCORE office at 816-235-6675. You also can call that number or visit the www.scorekc.org website to learn more about the entire range of free counseling services, mentoring help, and local and online workshops that SCORE offers.
