Leawood Sustainability Advisory Board Hosts 6th Annual Meeting for Homes Associations

Leawood, Kansas, Feb. 20, 2014 – The City of Leawood Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB) is hosting its 6th annual HOA meeting on Thurs., Feb. 27, at The Lodge at Ironwoods Park. The mission of the SAB is to lead, motivate, and collaborate with Leawood citizens to increase recycling, encourage conservation, and promote 'green' mobility in the City of Leawood.
In support of its mission, the SAB has invited representatives from more than 80 Leawood homeowners associations (HOAs) to the meeting in order to hear about sustainability activities already underway in Leawood, introduce residents to a host of local organizations and businesses that are contributing to Leawood's sustainability efforts, and learn how residents and HOAs can contribute to making Leawood a greener city.
The meeting will begin with round table discussions from 5-5:30 p.m., a social hour from 5:30-6 p.m., and dinner at 6 p.m. Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn will give a welcome and introduction at 6:15 p.m. Ward I City Council Representative Debra Filla will give an update on the Sustainability Advisory Board’s conservation, green mobility and recycling initiatives. Presentations also will include information on the City of Leawood Active Transportation Plan, Phase I of the City of Leawood Parks & Recreation Master Plan, the City of Leawood’s 135th Street corridor study, a video tour of the new Leawood Justice Center, water conservation, as well as an update on Leawood Public Works.
Attendees also will have the opportunity to visit booths from local organizations and businesses, as well as Leawood city departments, including:
BikeWalkKC, Heartland Habitat for Humanity, KC Curbside Glass, Johnson County Health & Environment, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Good Energy Solutions, RDG Planning - Design, Small Step Energy Solutions, Town & Country Disposal, Leawood Community Development, Leawood Cultural Arts, Leawood Information Services, Leawood Parks & Rec, and Leawood Public Works.
