KANSAS CITY, MO (February 12, 2014) – Senior Star at Wexford Place is pleased to announce today an innovative pilot program that is the first of its kind in the Kansas City area – the Live Well with Walgreens speakers’ series. As part of a new ongoing educational partnership with Walgreens, Senior Star at Wexford Place will host expert pharmacists who will present a variety of health topics for the community throughout the year. This new program is being initiated at all 12 Senior Star communities throughout the United States in 2014.
The Kansas City program, on women’s heart health, will be launched on Tuesday, February 18 at 11 a.m. at Senior Star at Wexford Place, 6500 North Cosby Avenue, Kansas City. A pharmacist from Walgreens will speak about the importance of prevention and early warning symptoms especially since heart disease is the number one killer of women according to the American Heart Association. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. For those attendees who would like to stay for lunch, the dining room will be open immediately following the presentation.
“We are excited to partner with a quality corporation like Walgreens. Their reputation and expertise brings a wealth of knowledge to the residents of Kansas City and beyond, and we are pleased to align ourselves with an organization that mirrors our philosophy of providing and promoting better health,” said Marsha Rufener, executive director of Senior Star at Wexford Place. “Together, I know we can accomplish great things for our community and we are proud to be a leader in offering this type of program. We hope the greater Kansas City community will join us each month for these key health topics.”
Added Walgreens Pharmacy Supervisor, Brooke King, “We believe that seniors who are well educated about health related issues that can affect them as they age are in a better position to take a more proactive approach to living well. When looking for strategic partners to help us provide this program, Senior Star’s educational model for retirement living is an excellent fit with Walgreens Well Initiative. We are pleased to engage in this exciting new venture to create a healthier community together.”
An RSVP is requested by February 14. Please call 816.581.0458 to reserve your space.
