Johnson County Government launches new website

JOHNSON COUNTY, KANSAS (February 6, 2014)…The residents of Johnson County now have an easier-to-navigate website that works as well on their smart phones and tablets as it does on their computers. Johnson County Government has launched a redesigned website, located at jocogov.org. This marks the first time the County has redesigned its site.

Johnson County Government reorganized its website based on resident feedback gathered from the most recent Citizen Survey, focus groups and usability testing. Based on resident input, the new jocogov.org unifies most of its department and agency websites into a single platform with a common design and navigation style. The website also has a new intuitive directory listing of more than 400 of the County’s most popular services.

“Our primary goal with the new website is to ensure residents have easy access to information about all County services,” said County Manager Hannes Zacharias. “We want to communicate with residents as effectively and transparently as possible. We know what an important resource our website is and we’ve redesigned it with residents in mind every step of the way.”

A site feature very unique to local government is the use of responsive design, which optimizes website performance no matter the screen size: desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. The site design also includes a new Johnson County Government logo, which most County departments and agencies will adopt in an effort to help County residents have a better understanding of the programs and services Johnson County Government provides them.

The website was built on a free, open-source web development platform called Drupal. Programming and development was done by existing County staff.
