The Builders’ Association Announces Changes to Its Education & Training Center Leadership Team

Kansas City, MO – The Builders’ Association is proud to announce the promotion of Dr. Richard Bruce to Education & Training Director and the appointment of Dr. Joseph E. Pink to Special Projects Director, both effective January 1, 2014. Dr. Bruce will continue to manage professional development activities, outreach initiatives, and apprenticeship and training, while Dr. Pink will focus on facility improvements at the Association’s Education & Training Center in North Kansas City prior to retiring at the end of the year. Prior to joining The Builders’ Association full-time in 2012, Dr. Bruce taught construction management at Missouri State University (2008-2012) and the University of Central Missouri (2000-2008). In 2003, Dr. Pink hired Dr. Bruce to convert the Associated General Contractors’ (AGC’s) Supervisory Training Program (STP) to online delivery through the Metropolitan Community College’s Blackboard © system and to teach the 10 online courses. The Education & Training staff still teaches the online courses as well as several traditional classroom courses for MCC’s Associate in Applied Science in Industrial Technologies–Construction Management degree program. Dr. Pink joined The Builders’ Association as Education & Training Director in 1991 after a successful career with the Kansas City School District. As Education & Training Director, his many accomplishments included writing and receiving funding for a Tech Prep grant through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), transitioning the apprenticeship and training programs from evening courses to daytime courses, and moving the training facility from Kansas City, Missouri, to North Kansas City. The Builders’ Association represents approximately 900 general contractor, subcontractor, supplier and service provider member companies employing about 20,000 people. With over 125 years of service to the commercial construction industry, it also operates training and plan room service centers in Kansas City, Jefferson City and Springfield, as well as its Education & Training Center in North Kansas City. The Builders’ Association’s sister organization, the Kansas City Chapter, AGC, currently represents over 130 firms and is part of the AGC of America, the largest and oldest national construction trade association in the United States.
