Feb. 21 is registration deadline for Girls on the Run track program for grades 3-5
Educating and preparing girls in grades three through five for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living is the goal of a track program being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
This program is called Girls on the Run. Using a well-researched curriculum, the program teaches life lessons through fun interactive games combined with training for a noncompetitive end of season 5K event on May 17 at a location to be determined. The registration deadline for the spring session is Feb. 21.
Girls on the Run is offered at 4:15 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday beginning March 3 at two locations. One class takes place at the Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, while the other takes place at New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner. Both sessions begin at 4:15 p.m.
To find this program in the JCPRD Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under youth, then under sports. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “track.”
The cost for 20 90-minute sessions is $145 for Johnson County residents or $160 for nonresidents. The registration deadline is Feb. 21. After registering, participants will receive forms to fill out via email, so they can return them at the first class.
The JCPRD's Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the District's website at www.jcprd.com.
