Valentine's Day events for 50 Plus include dinner and bingo, dance

For Valentine's Day this year, the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District is offering residents a choice of two great special events at two locations.

There's Valentine's Day Dinner and Bingo at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, and a Valentine’s Day Dance With the Playboys at the Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty, Overland Park. Both events take place on Friday, Feb. 14.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “holiday social” and "dance."

Now in its second year, Valentine's Day Dinner and Bingo gives participants the opportunity to avoid crowded restaurants and celebrate the holiday with an evening at the Roeland Park Community Center. This event begins at 5 p.m. Participants will enjoy a special catered dinner followed by 12 games of bingo. Prizes range from gift bags to gift certificates. The cost for this two and one-half-hour event is $15 per person.

Valentine’s Day Dance With the Playboys will let participants celebrate by dancing away Valentine's Day afternoon to the sounds of the 30's and 40's with local band, The Playboys. This event will also feature a dessert bar with refreshments, and door prizes. Keepsake digital photos will be taken at the event for an additional $5. The cost for this two-hour event, which begins at 2 p.m., is $5 per person. For reservations, call (913) 642-6410 until Feb. 7.

While the JCPRD's 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus program are invited to call the District's Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD's Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the District's website at
