UMass Swimmers From Overland Park Recognized for Achievement

Two University of Massachusetts swimmers hailing from Overland Park were recently recognized as Men’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week.

The Atlantic 10 Conference announced last week that Michael Glenn, a 2011 Blue Valley West graduate, and University of Massachusetts Junior, was the Performer of the Week for results at the Rhode Island Invitational held January 10-11, 2014. Glenn led the Minutemen to the Invitational title with three individual wins and was part of the 400-yd medley relay title team as well. Glenn captured first-place in the 100-yd breaststroke (59:03), the 200-yd breaststroke (2:08.88) and the 400-yd Individual Medley (4:08.40).

UMass freshman Heath Maginn, who graduated from St. James Academy-Lenexa in 2013, was named A-10 Men’s Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he was selected Eastern College Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for Division I - New England. Maginn recorded first-place finishes in the 100-yd backstroke (54.82) and the 200-yd backstroke (1:55.41) in a dual meet against Bryant on January 18, 2013. His margin of victory in the 200-yd backstroke was larger than eight seconds.
