Spiritual team to be featured for 2014 Dykman Series
A husband and wife team, whose experience spans a wide range of contemporary Christian teaching, will be keynote speakers for the 2014 Dykman Lecture Series Feb. 21. The event, sponsored by Metro Lutheran Ministry, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.
Wes Howard-Brook and his wife Sue Ferguson Johnson collaborate in the ministry Abide in Me. Howard-Brook built a successful career as an attorney for the U.S. and Washington state governments. He left law practice in 1985 to earn a Master of Divinity degree at Seattle University. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was part of Galilee Circle, an ecumenical Christian small community, which sought to live the radical Word of the Gospel in both personal and public ways, including a series of nonviolent direct actions at various private and public places of war making and imperial violence.
Dwefuaon Johnaon is a former psychologist who engaged in full-time ministry in 2002. She was raised in the United Methodist Church but, with Wes, is now at home in the Mennonite Church, where she has been instrumental in reshaping the local church from a committee model to a prayer-Scripture-discernment model. Also with Wes, she cowrote a Pax Christi USA Lent Reflection booklet.
The annual lecture series is named in honor of former board president and perennial MLM leader, Lloyd W. Dykman. Although admission is free, seating is limited, so for more information or to reserve seats, call Steven Tucker at (816) 285-3145 or email@example.com.
