KUMC International Outreach Annual Auction

KUMC International Outreach Annual Auction to Benefit Medical Mission to Guatemala and Panama

The University of Kansas School of Medicine’s International Outreach student organization (KUMCIO) will host its annual KUMCIO Benefit Auction on Friday, January 17, 2014, at 5 p.m.

The event is open to the public and will be held in the School of Nursing Atrium on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus at the intersection of 39th and Rainbow Boulevard. The silent auction runs from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., with a live auction starting at 7:00 p.m. KUMCIO is requesting a $5 minimum donation for admission, which includes food, beverages, and a live performance by KUMC’s “Doctor’s Notes” a cappella group. Items up for auction include a Bill Self-autographed basketball, a Bill Snyder-autographed football, custom artwork from last year’s trip to Guatemala, a winery tour and tasting at Amigoni Urban Winery as well as a wide variety of Kansas City-area events tickets. Proceeds from the event’s silent and live auctions, as well as donations collected at the door, will benefit the organization’s upcoming medical mission trips. KUMCIO will use all proceeds to procure medication and supplies for two, week-long medical mission trips to Panama and Guatemala this spring. Since 2003, students, physicians and pharmacists affiliated with KUMCIO have traveled to Central America to provide medical care to patients in impoverished areas. Last year, KUMCIO served more than 350 patients through these trips. This spring, first year medical students will follow in the footsteps of previous medical students when they return to Patanatic, Guatemala. Their duties will include making home visits, providing patient care in Patanatic’s Community Education and Health Center, and extending services to nearby villages through the use of the clinic’s new mobile medical unit. The second group will be traveling to the Panama City and working in local clinics throughout the region as they make daily trips by boat to remote villages surrounding the Panama Canal. For more information about KUMCIO, the organization’s past and upcoming medical mission trips, and the annual Benefit Auction, please visit www.kumcio.org or search for KUMCIO on Facebook or Twitter. Questions and requests for information also can be directed to Kristen Meier at (785) 534-0060 or kmeier2@kumc.edu. KUMCIO is a registered 501(c)(3) organization through KU Endowment Association, and all donations are tax-deductible.
