Barstow School hosts robotics event for 7 teams

Annual event gathers 150+ high schoolers for big reveal of the 2014 FIRST Robotics game

The Barstow School’s robotics team will be holding its annual kick-off event on January 4 to celebrate the reveal of the newest robotics challenge from FIRST™. This year, seven teams will be in attendance at the kick-off—the Barstow Kuh-nig-its, Raymore-Peculair Panthers, Grandview Robodogs, Ruskin Team HERMES, Center Robojackets, O’Hara Cel-Techs , and a Northland home school team, UpNext. The Kick-off event will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at the Barstow School, 11511 State Line Road, KCMO. The schedule will be as follows: •8 am – Teams gather for breakfast, donate food drive items for Harvesters •9 am – Robotics demonstrations •10 am – Watch the international FRC game reveal live. Following the 2014 game reveal, high schools teams around the world will have only six weeks to design, build, and program a robot to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. All 7 teams at the Barstow Kick-off will compete with more than 50 other teams at the Greater Kansas City Regional on March 14-15th at the MCC Business & Technology Campus. The Barstow robotics team—with mentors from Honeywell, Sprint, and other local businesses—earned a spot at the FRC World Championships last year with the Frisbee-throwing “Killer Rabbot,”which will be demonstrated at the kick-off event. With professional mentors, but no blueprints to guide them, student teams build and program robots to play a new game each year. For more information, see
