Sunrise Advisors celebrates continued growth, firm’s 20th anniversary

LEAWOOD, KS (November 2013) – Sunrise Advisors, Inc. proudly recognizes the firm’s 20th anniversary. Started in 1993, the independent wealth management firm has grown to one of the largest Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

“Our successes are solely attributable to our loyal clients and friends. We are blessed by their continued confidence and trust in us,” said Dave Scott, founder of Sunrise Advisors. “When I left the brokerage business and started Sunrise, I simply wanted an avenue to provide objective, comprehensive, and conflict-free advice. Unfortunately, that model didn’t exist in the world of banks and brokerage firms, so we headed down the un-traveled path”.

As one of the first ‘fee only’ financial firms in Kansas City, Sunrise embraced independence and their fiduciary duty. By law, a fiduciary must always place the clients’ interests ahead of the firm, disclose all potential conflicts of interest, and be transparent in the costs of doing business – collectively, things that were virtually unheard of in the industry in 1993. Sunrise has helped pioneer the movement toward transparency and fiduciary responsibility, and their consumer-centric message continues to be sought out by local and national media, including the Kansas City Business Journal, Reuters, the Wall Street Journal and National Public Radio (NPR).

Sam Scott, President of Sunrise Advisors and David’s son, added, “The fiduciary message has resonated with people and their families. It seems obvious that a financial professional should sit on the same side of the table as the client, but in most cases that does not happen. Due to our ‘fee-only’ structure, the client knows that we are in this together and that our only incentive is to ensure they are successful”.

As a family-owned, multi-generational business, it is not uncommon that the firm’s clientele resembles the firm that works for them; primarily successful individuals and business owners with an eye toward family-centric ideals and wealth transition. As the organization has grown, to approximately $350 million in discretionary assets under management, Sunrise has expanded their services to uniquely cater to these clients in a holistic manner, including: financial planning, retirement planning, investment management, business transition and estate planning.

Dave concluded, “The opportunity to work with so many great people is ever-rewarding. We set out to create a firm that abided by the ‘golden rule’, and this has allowed us to cultivate many deep, personal relationships. The continuity and team in place at Sunrise has created a solid foundation for us to serve our clients for generations to come. We are looking forward to it.”
