Special pre-release screening of Calvin and Hobbes documentary 'Dear Mr. Watterson'

Kansas City, Mo. (November 8, 2013) – As a part of the year-round Kansas City FilmFest movie series, GoComics and Gravitas Ventures are proud to present a special pre-release screening of the documentary “Dear Mr. Watterson” on Monday, November 11 at 7PM at the Alamo Drafthouse – Mainstreet in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The film takes a detailed and entertaining look into the inspirational impact that comic strip Calvin and Hobbes and its reclusive creator Bill Watterson have had on pop culture and society.

A special part of the experience will be a film introduction and post-film Q & A with three of Kansas City’s own who are featured in the film:

•Lee Salem, Universal Uclick/GoComics President Emeritus; editor of Calvin and Hobbes •John Glynn, Universal Uclick/GoComics President •Sue Roush, Universal Uclick/GoComics Managing Editor

Additionally, Kansas Citian and Andrews McMeel Universal/Universal Uclick co-founder John McMeel is featured in the film in a voiceover capacity.

“Dear Mr. Watterson” features several of the cartooning industry’s finest, including Berkeley Breathed (Bloom County), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Bill Amend (FoxTrot), Jef Mallett (Frazz), Jan Eliot (Stone Soup), Keith Knight (The Knight Life), Wiley Miller (Non Sequitur) and Lucas Turnbloom (Imagine This). Self-professed comics geek and actor Seth Green is also interviewed.

Tickets for this screening are available through the Kansas City FilmFest's website for $7 (http://kcfilmfest.org/2013/10/dear-mr-watterson-november-11-7pm-alamo-drafthouse). The event is likely to sell out and is also the only scheduled theatrical screening for the film in the Kansas City area, as another fine event provided by the Kansas City FilmFest.

Tying into the screening will be a GoComics social media contest, where one person will win high-quality, frameable prints of the first and last Calvin and Hobbes comic strips.
