Content: Jenny's Kids, Inc., a small pediatric occupational therapy clinic in Lawrence welcomes Jami Growney, OTR/L as Feeding Specialist and Occupational Therapist.
Jami is returning to her professional roots in Lawrence, although you may remember her as Jami Lutz. Jami has a strong background in sensory integrative therapies, and has extensive competency with feeding challenges, including food allergies, reflux, constipation, and many medical obstacles to feeding. Many of Jami’s clients may be labeled “picky eaters” or have a very limited range of accepted foods, often affecting their overall health and daily performance. Oftentimes, clients may enter the therapy process for more school performance or social issues, not realizing many eating issues are closely integrated to their sensory processing; this may include poor oral motor/coordination, oral sensory or tactile defensiveness, hypersensitive gag, anxiety, etc.
Miss Growney graduated from the University of Kansas in 1993 and has worked at Children’s Mercy Hospital, providing outpatient and home-based therapy, while also contracting with local schools. She also was the primary therapist for the Spinal Defects Clinic at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Jami Growney has also contracted with the local tiny-k programs and school districts in Johnson, Douglas and Anderson Counties. Since 2003, Miss Growney has contracted privately as a Feeding Specialist for Infant-Toddler services of Johnson County in Kansas City. She served an exclusive caseload of children with primary and secondary feeding challenges, including medically fragile clients. Miss Growney has traveled nation-wide providing continuing education since 2007, and presented at National Conferences for Parents As Teachers, MAGIC, and Annual conferences for Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and Kansas Occupational Therapy Association. “Children with SPD have challenges getting through each day and experiencing success in childhood occupations.
