Midwest Foster Care, Adoption Association Friends of the Family Auxiliary Board
Independence, MO — November 7, 2013 – Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association, 18600 E 37th Terrace, Box 11, Independence, MO 64057
MFCAA invites representatives of the community to join the staff and leadership of the newly created Friends of the Family Auxiliary Board at one of two upcoming informational meetings. Tuesday, November 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 16 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the MFCAA offices. At the Friends of the Family Auxiliary Board information meetings we will share exciting news about this new board and how everyone can have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected foster and adopted children across the greater KC area.
Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association (MFCAA) is the premier non-profit organization in Kansas City dedicated to support and advocacy for abused and neglected children and the families caring for them. We specialize in solving problems for kids and families involved in and affected by the child welfare system. Our mission is “to provide foster and adopted children the opportunity of a stable, caring and nurturing family environment by recruiting, training, developing, supporting and motivating foster and adoptive parents.” We began in 1998 as a small support group formed by an experienced Teaching Foster Parent and a brand new, energetic foster parent. We have our primary location in the Kansas City area and seven chapters in Missouri, outside of Kansas City. We are led by an 18-member board of directors and a staff of 27 dedicated specialists.
We believe the best way to help displaced children who have been abused or neglected heal from the trauma is to place them with caring, skilled, committed families. At MFCAA we offer: ? Recruitment and licensing of foster and adoptive parents, including Extreme Recruitment services targeting children who are considered hard to place (an innovative and effective program previously funded by Healthcare Foundation), ? Training and education to help foster, adoptive and kinship parents meet the very special needs of the children in their care,
Tools and support to help parents provide safe, healthy, nurturing homes, Thousands of hours of specialized training annually, Individual mentoring to foster, adoptive and kinship parents, and to foster youth, Advocacy to foster, adoptive and kinship parents working to meet children’s mental health, behavioral, physical and educational needs, Support of a food pantry, clothing closet, holiday programs, back to school program, and Community support through family events.
We hope you will join us on November 12 or November 16 for food, cocktails, and fun learning more about MFCAA and the Friends of the Family Auxiliary Board!
