Greenlease Gallery Presents "Land:Mark," Paintings, Sculptures by Taylor, Mühsam

“Land:Mark,” a collaborative exhibition featuring the paintings, collages and sculptures of Caleb Taylor and Armin Mühsam, will open Friday, Nov. 1, in the Greenlease Gallery. This presentation is a visual manifestation of the conversations, lectures, and critiques shared by these two artists over the past thirteen years. For this exhibition, Taylor and Mühsam are presenting works that question the permanence of actions and the meaning within constructed realities.

Taylor includes recent paintings and sculptures that use a minimal voice to examine our sensorial engagement with the spaces we occupy. In these new developments, paintings and architectonic paper structures indicative of urban grid layouts respond to the environment through an innate sense of order.

Mühsam paints cultivated landscapes that have witnessed extreme states of human intervention. Depicting dikes, overpasses and fragmented architecture, his work investigates the influence of technology on our ever-changing environment. His works in this exhibition merge elements from his previous paintings with found images and objects. Together, both artists use these modes of observation as catalysts for compositions and sculptures that preserve and display the overlooked.

The public is invited to hear Taylor and Mühsam discuss their works at 6:30 p.m. and to attend an opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the Greenlease Gallery. The exhibition will be on display through Dec. 7.

The Greenlease Gallery is located between Van Ackeren and Sedgwick halls on the Rockhurst University campus at 54th Street and Troost Avenue. The gallery is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. For more information, contact Greenlease Gallery Director Halcombe Miller at
