Horizon Academy Celebrates Learning Disabilities Awareness Month and 15th Anniversary With Great Pumpkin Race 5k Run

ROELAND PARK, Kan. – On your mark. Get set. GO! Horizon Academy will be kicking off their first annual Great Pumpkin Race 5k run/walk in celebration of their 15th anniversary as a school and learning disabilities awareness month on Saturday, October 26th at 9:00 a.m.

After opening their doors to just 12 students in 1999, Horizon Academy has grown over the years and continued to carve out a great education for the 68 students who currently attend the school. This year, Horizon Academy decided to celebrate their anniversary with a 5k walk/run, which is open to the community. All proceeds will benefit the Horizon Academy Scholarship Fund.

With Halloween just around the corner, the Great Pumpkin theme seemed fitting and festive! Some highlights of the Great Pumpkin Race include:

•Medals/ribbons for all participants •T-Shirts for all participants •FREE face painting •FREE pumpkin decorating activity •FREE snacks •DJ emcee for the event •Costume contest with prizes •Mayor Joel Marquardt of Roeland Park will announce the start of the race •Kids Fun Run

All are welcome to participate in the Great Pumpkin Race 5k, which will start and end at Horizon Academy (4901 Reinhardt Drive, Roeland Park, KS 66205). Race registration will continue through the morning of the race. If you have any questions, please contact Horizon Academy’s Community Relations Coordinator, Emily Campbell, at 913-789-9443.
