LaShawn Childs Named Employee of the Quarter

– Overland Park, Kansas — LaShawn Childs has worked with TFI Family Services, Inc. (TFI) for more than 7 years. In that time she has seen a lot of changes, experienced a lot of positive work relationships, and excelled in her position as a Quality Improvement Specialist. TFI is proud to announce LaShawn Childs as the Employee of the Quarter.

While Childs’ work as a Quality Improvement Specialist involves working with policies, procedures, audits, and trainings; what sets Childs apart is the importance she places on supporting and forming relationships with TFI staff and the professional agencies with which TFI works.

“My favorite part of the job is being able to interact with staff on a personal level,” said Childs. “To have close and hands on contact to be able to share directly what the policies and procedures are of the agencies we work with.”

“[LaShawn] is a natural leader,” said Beverly Corkill, Quality Improvement Supervisor and LaShawn Child’s supervisor of five years. “She goes out of her way to communicate with everyone in her department and she is genuine.”

In July 2013, TFI transitioned from being a reintegration, foster care, and adoption services contractor with the Kansas Department for Children and Families to providing independent support to more than 700 Kansas foster families. This transition came with many new challenges and changes for TFI staff and the Quality Improvement unit was no different.

“The last several months have been challenging for everyone,” said Corkill. “QI was very busy during the transition ensuring new offices got licensed, annual licenses renewed, International Adoption received accreditation, etc. and LaShawn assisted with all of these projects. She set an example of what a TFI ambassador should be during tough times!”

Childs credits her coworkers with being a large source of support. Retention of staff in her office in Overland Park and having a supervisor and director who were good to work with and knowledgeable helped bring stability during the time of transition, and Childs looks forward to TFI’s bright future.

“It’s an exciting time to see where TFI is heading in our new journey,” shared Childs.
