Overland Park accounting firm partner to testify before Congress

Overland Park, KS, September 19, 2013 -- TPP Certified Public Accountants, LLC partner C. Roy Messick III has the honor of being invited to testify before the Committee on Small Business in Washington, DC on October 2, 2013.

This open hearing, “The Challenge of Retirement Savings for Small Employers,” is bipartisan and is chaired by Republican Congressman Sam Graves from Missouri and includes the Committee’s Ranking Member (lead Democrat) Nydia Velazquez from New York. Since there is no pending bill under consideration, this oversight hearing will educate the Members, staff and the public about the related issues surrounding the importance of retirement savings for small employers.

Messick will share his expertise in working with small employers and their retirement plans. He will discuss the difference between a Defined Contribution Plan versus a Defined Benefit Plan, the two primary Defined Contribution Plans of 401(k) for businesses and 403(b) for not-for-profit organizations, as well as the most often selected plan for small businesses, the Safe Harbor 401(k) Plan. He will also address Who Participates in an Employer Provided Plan and Why. Included in Messick’s testimony will be Why Small Employers Do or Don’t Offer Retirement Plans and How to Encourage More Small Employers to Offer Retirement Plans.
