Alterra Bank Grows with New Branch, Headquarters Expansion and Revamped Website

Kansas City, Mo. (Sept. 19, 2013) – Just three and a half years after opening its doors in April 2010, Alterra Bank is expanding. The bank has relocated its headquarters to Leawood, Kansas and established the first new Alterra Bank branch at the same location. This is the company’s third full-service branch office, joining locations in Overland Park, Kansas and Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

The new headquarters location accommodates the bank’s growing business and establishes one central location as the company’s signature corporate office. The Leawood branch extends the bank’s reach in an effort to better serve customers who can easily access the location from I-435 and State Line.

Since opening in 2010, Alterra Bank has experienced dramatic year-over-year growth and expanded from 14 to 43 employees, including the addition of 11 full-time positions this year. In 2013, the bank added a full-service mortgage division and a private banking team to better serve the bank’s growing customer base. These divisions complement the bank’s well-established commercial banking reputation. Since 2012, Alterra Bank has been Kansas City’s #1 SBA Lender.

Serving as Alterra’s prototype for future growth, the new branch is staffed by “universal bankers” who can deliver a private-banking level of service without traditional teller lines or drive-through lanes. “At Alterra Bank, we remain committed to convenient, customized banking for all of our clients, all of whom have better things to do than stand in a teller line waiting for service.” says Pam Berneking, President and CEO of Alterra Bank.

The bank’s new branch and headquarters were designed by Kara Bush and Meghan Dudek of, BensonWedd, a design firm located in Overland Park, Kan. specializing in commercial interior spaces that reflect the values, philosophy, and branding of a company. They created the new space with a specific focus in mind – ensuring the physical space reflected the bank’s brand, culture and customers. For one, the branch features TV screens in the waiting area and an upscale coffee bar in the lobby, both touches that help customers feel welcome and relaxed.

"Many traditional banks feel heavy and ornate. We wanted to craft an experience that juxtaposed Alterra with the huge financial corporations,” Bush says. “You'll notice lots of clean lines and warm wood tones throughout the space. These give the Leawood branch an inviting and modern atmosphere."

In conjunction with a facelift for its physical location, changes at are another piece of Alterra Bank’s continued growth and expansion.

“This site aligns perfectly with our brand, but more importantly provides an infrastructure to support our commitment to breaking the barriers of convenience through the use of technology,” says Jeff Chambers, Chief Strategy Officer of Alterra Bank. “While much of the site is complete, there is continued development surrounding online account opening and enhanced security information that will help our customers safely transact business in a digital world. Our goal was to build an online branch and the new site represents a giant first step in that direction. We’re also proud to say that the site was developed and built locally by our friends at Propaganda 3, Whiskey Design and Kazoo Marketing.”

Alterra’s new branch is part of its plan for further strategic growth. In Leawood, Alterra Bank can more conveniently and effectively serve its current customer base located throughout the metro area. Along with continued expansion of the bank’s commercial banking services, including it’s market leading SBA division, Alterra’s new mortgage and private banking teams extend the company’s Higher Ground approach to serve an expanding market segment. And the bank is poised for continued growth with proximity to many small businesses and commercial clients in the Leawood and southern Johnson County areas.

The new branch is located at 11300 Tomahawk Creek Pkwy, Suite 100 Leawood, Kan. and is open for business from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
