Two Chefs, Two Nights, Two Dinners in The Crossroads
Something magical is about to happen in the crossroads art district. Two James Beard Awarded chefs are coming together to cook in the same kitchen at 1900 Main Street.
Chef Robert Donna of Al Dente in Washington DC and Chef Michael Smith of Kansas City have put together a two night event at Smith's eponymous restaurant in the Crossroads and the wine and food are expected to be the finest examples of the master chef's art and the vintners labor, for some time to come.
September 11-12 starting at 6:00 p.m. on both nights, these chefs will bring their best to the table and patrons can expect to experience a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Washington’s most famous Italian chef going back to 1984, Roberto Donna is a James Beard winner and twice DC “Chef of the Year”. Owner of some 20 restaurants over the years, he is best known for his award-winning Galileo restaurants and I Matti, a ground-breaking trattoria in 1980’s Adams Morgan. From Torino (Turin) in Northern Italy, Chef Donna’s current cuisine spans Southern and all regions of his beloved country.
Michael Smith, also a Beard winner for Best Chef Midwest, and KC Magazines "Best Chef 2013" is well know in the Kansas City culinary scene. His time at The American and his Johnson County restaurant, 40 Sardines solidified his place among the areas finest chefs. He now runs two of KC's finest establishments that share an address, but not much else. Michael Smith is the epitome of fine dining, featuring the influences of Europe and the Americas, while his Extra Virgin next door is a trendy Mediterranean tapas experience, with a craft cocktail bar and wood fired oven.
A weekly Italian offering at Michael Smith called "Big Night" has been attracting attention over the last few months and this event brings Roberto Donna, one of the country's finest Italian chefs into the kitchen with Michael. On the 11th, chef Donna will prepare the meal and on the 12th, both chefs will cook.
"This is kind of a big deal for us here," said Smith. "We don't do this kind of thing very often and it will be something that people will remember for a long time. Being able to share two nights with us, with this great food and amazing wine will stick with most diners for a lifetime," he added.
Reservations are $100 for either night, or both events (if reserved together) for $185 per person plus tax and gratuity. Rarely do two chefs of such caliber come together for a gathering of this size. The intimacy of the restaurant balanced against the overwhelming skill and experience of chefs Roberto Donna and Michael Smith will make for two evenings of gastronomic wonder and delight!
The paired wines chosen specifically for their perfect complement to each dish by Richard Kingston Zellich of Pinnacle Imports, round out what will be two meals not soon forgotten. Two nights, two chefs, two meals that you and your guests will be talking about for a long time.
All reservations must be made by contacting Nancy Smith via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 816.842.2202.
