CONGRESSMAN KEVIN YODER HELPED RAVEN’S HOPE INTERNATIONAL BRING HOPE TO WOMEN 18-30 FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Olathe, Kansas, September 6, 2013 - Local non-profit organization Raven’s Hope International, launches a leadership program that welcomes its first residents from America & Cambodia.

RHI is a dual-purpose organization that provides ministry, missionary experience, and preparation to American women, while at the same time teaching biblical principles, English, and life skills to women from other counties who have been personally or environmentally impacted by the web of human trafficking.

Raven’s Hope started a little over a year ago after Founder and Director Karen Robinson visited the country of Cambodia and learned about the country’s notorious reputation for sex trafficking. During her trip she met nine resilient women that melted her heart as they shared how sex trafficking had affected their lives. “Most of the women know nothing outside of their third-world experience. They’ve lived in an environment with less than nothing -- surviving in absolute poverty, yet they’re some of the happiest people I’ve ever met. They’re leaders in their communities”, says Founder and Director Karen Robinson. “We’re so excited about having the opportunity to continue to develop their leadership skills by introducing them to a whole new world here in America.”

Their arrival to America was not an easy task. They were denied American visas twice, but when Congressman Kevin Yoder wrote a congressional letter for them, the embassy called Raven’s Hope and had the girls come in and get their visas.

The soon to be residents are equally excited about their visit to America. “I am so happy to be a part of Raven’s Hope. I’ve always dreamed of seeing America”, says Leakena Heang, a 25 year old program participant. In Cambodia she serves as a Social Worker. She’s eager to continue to grow as a leader. “I can’t wait to share what I have learned with my people in Cambodia.”

Throughout the six months the women will learn English, Biblical principles, and life skills. Raven’s Hope has partnered with businesses and sponsors to ensure that upon completion of the program each young lady will be provided with a job. In addition to receiving employment, each participant will receive a weekly stipend provided by sponsors and donors.

Raven’s Hope International will welcome the new residents at its "Welcome to America Shower" on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Church of The Harvest located at 14841 Blackbob Road, Olathe, KS. The public is invited to participate and bring a donation. To learn more about Raven’s Hope International visit www.RavenHopeInternational.com
